A
Fox News article earlier this month dealt with the delayed release of a report by
Independent counsel (and former Republican lobbyist/activist) David Barret that supposedly hints at Clinton Administration wrongdoing in several areas. The situation surrounding the report, at least to me, is the most irrelevant part of the article. What fascinates me is the quote at the end:
"If it turns out that the report gets released and it smells anything like a typical Clinton cover-up, we're going to activate our 1 million members," said William Greene, president of RightMarch, a Georgia-based grassroots organization that specializes in coordinating campaigns that deluge members of Congress with e-mails, faxes and phone calls on issues of interest. "We're keeping an eye on it right now."
A Cover-up? By whom? The Democrats? The Clinton's? Perhaps this upstanding fellow forgot, if that's possible, who currently controls this ENTIRE GOVERNMENT.
more disbelief below...
I'm no parliamentarian, but how much control does the democratic minority actually have in situations like this? I would think very little.
Besides, that one article alone documents bipartisan support for the release of the entire report (classified information, or legally unreleasable portions, notwithstanding).
Ultimately, the Republicans control Congress. Of the individuals potentially named in this report, who among them has any control over how the report is handled or released? If someone can explain it to me, I'll eagerly listen. As it stands now, this seems like pure right-wing hypocrisy, a last effort to grasp at straws and pull any tidbit of Clinton-gossip out of the flaming destruction of the Bush Administration. Not to say the report can't be damaging. But it DOES seem oddly irrelevant. How can anyone whine about the Clinton administration's ineptitude given the long list of possible crimes committed by Bush and his cabinet?
Perhaps that's my youthful naivety talking. I'm open for enlightenment.
(besides, the entire point of this diary is to take my mind off what's about to happen in the Senate. distractions can be good, as long as they prove educational)
worthless update: this diary has held its position as the most recent diary longer than my previous post, a much better one in my opinion, stayed in the top 20!!! maybe i should've gone with a better idea today. i've got to pay better attention to the posting patterns of our little community. (sorry to whine!)
