Nicholas Kristof is easily the best journalist in America. His valiant reporting from Darfur, a stroy that everyone else in the media has refused to cover, warranted a Noble Peace Prize this past year. Kristof's fight, however, is just beginning.
When the genocide in Darfur, Sudan first broke out, Kristof rightuflly directed his energy towards educating the public about the specifics of the conflict. Now, however, he is broadening his approach to include the biggest problem right here on the homefront: Our media's outright refusal to give genocide the mass attention it deserves. Natrually, Bill O'reilly comes to anyone's mind when thinking of shameful media pundits who care more about ratings than saving Sudanese children.
Unfortunately, the NYT makes you pay for Kristof's latest column directed at O'reilly. (Why the hell does the NYT do this when it is totally counterproductive to what Kristof is trying to do with Darfur?) Anyways,
linked text here is summary of the column from Editor and Publisher. Why can't Bill Oreilly be the real man, not the macho phony that he really is, and admit that Kristof is right?
Instead, O'reilly disugustingly retailates by personally attacking Kristof who he says is is "wrong in focusing on Americans when the Sudanese are the villains for the mass killing in Darfur."
That quote is quentesential Bill O'reilly. For informed people like us, it only takes a 6th graders ciritcal thinking skills to see that Bill is very, very slickly misrepresenting the heart and soul of Kristof's argument.
Obviously, Kristof is blaming our MSM, not rank in file Americans for the severity of the genocide. And rightfully so, he zeroes in on Bill O'reilly, the highest rated cable news host in the country. To maintain his O'reilly style image as a populist who speaks for mainstream America, O'reilly substitues the word "Americans" where he truly is just referring to himself. LEt's look at the quote again, because I think it exmplifies the central tactic O'reilly uses when defaming good people's character (which he does ALL THE TIME).
"Kristof is wrong in focusing on Americans when the Sudanese are the villains for the mass killing in Darfur."
As far as I know, Kristof is only focusing on you, Mr O. Unike you, Nicholas Kristof is from mainstream America. He was born into a working class farming community in rural Oregon and has seen the majority of the world. You, O'reilly just continue to live in your sensationalist bubble where a mainstream news story must always pander exclusively to the religious right.
Anyways, Ill stop right there with the Oreilly vs Kristoff feud. I feel like Im definitely rambling too much. But on a much lighter note, did anyone else see Al Sharpton clean O'reilly's deck over the King funeral? If you didn't I highly reccomend checking the first few minutes of the factor when they re-run it at ten tonight.
