Are you new to the DailyKOS? If you're like me, you probably are confused from time to time by all the acronyms used here.
To make it easier for you new folks, I've started compiling a list of commonly-used acronyms on TDK (short for "The Daily KOS", by the way.)
Below the fold is your guide to KOS Abbreviations, part one in an ongoing effort to make this site more user-friendly for first-timer readers.
CPA -- Certified Personal Ass(istant) -- in particular, a member of an organization filled with lickspittle hacks, such that they make the organization not useful. Ex: "FEMA's Michael Brown was the President's CPA in Homeland Security." Obsolete.
CTG -- Inspirational religious work written by DailyKOS participants, short for its full title, "Catch the Goodness!" Often used on bumperstickers along with 'WWJD'.
CT-SEN -- "One cent = one sen" -- short hand abbreviation for the old expression, "A cent is as good as a sen," referring proverbially to one who believes that exchanging one currency for another is six of one and a half dozen of another. Used frequently to refer to an incumbent who has switched parties in all but name.
DCCC - District of Columbia Conservation Corps -- a jobs program located in Washington, DC that employs the unemployable with no apparent job skills.
FISA -- First In, Sits Always -- acronym used to refer to incumbent members of Congress, particularly ones who have been there so long they've forgotten what they voted for.
GOTV - Giddy On TV - also known as GOTV Effort -- refers to the trouble one takes in a political campaign to act like Howard Dean in Iowa. Ex:. "This elections looks to be decided by the GOTV effort at this point."
GOP -- Get Out and Party -- featured activity following a tax cut.
kos -- nickname of the founder of this site, short for Keith Olbermann's Secretary, which was his former occupation. Pronounced "KEEE-ahhhhss".
MoE - Men on Earth -- anachronistically sexist term used in polling data, which refers to the sample size in terms of the total percentage of eligible white male voters. First used in the Constitution by the Founding Fathers to refer to the procedure for resolving electoral college ties.
MSM - little-watched cable outfit of Microsoft Corporation, short for MicroSoft Microsoft. This is where Keith Olbermann's sports show may be watched.
NRSC - Northern Retirement of South Carolina -- an old-age home where tired-out politicians are put out to pasture - also refers to any member of congress who apparently is not from the state which they represent. Example: "Rick Santorum's house in Virginia seems to make him eligible for NRSC."
POTUS - Press On The Uncommon Side -- opposite of the Mainstream Media. Example: "The DailyKOS is part of the POTUS."
RINOS - Really Interesting, but Not On our Side - refers to persons of some conscience who have apparently been corrupted by bad company but continue to do things they know are wrong. Compare to CT-SEN for the antonym.
SCOTUS - Super Congressional Override of The US - when both branches of congress try to override a presidential veto. Example: "Today, the SCOTUS Voted 5-4 to repeal abortion rights." Strangely, there never seems to be more than nine votes for a SCOTUS decision.
TNR - Verb derived from the initials of Theodore Nelson Roosevelt, 26th President of the United States, which refers to somebody of dubious political loyalties switching parties (as TNR switched from Republican to Progressive-Bull Moose). Ex: "That Morton Kondracke TNR'd over to Fox News."
