Tomorrow's Republican Primary in Tom DeLay's district offers a fascinating dilemma for Democrats.
Texas is an "open primary" state, and Democratic voters could note that Democrat Nick Lampson has no meaningful opposition and choose to vote in the Republican Primary. DeLay's main opposition is a guy named Tom Campbell who, despite attempts to move rightward to appeal to vile Fort Bend County whites, is actually a somewhat "moderate" Republican who appears to be pro-environment.
But, as today's Dallas Morning-News notes, prominent Democrats have rejected this notion, preferring to run against DeLay in November since it gives Dems the best chance to win.
And, to be fair, participating in the Democratic Primary does permit one to choose from statewide candidates for office. But, the votes from a single Congressional District are less weighty here.
A Campbell win hurts Nick Lampson's campaign, a lot. But it helps America, and Houston.
