Welcome to California. Where the cops tell you to get up, then shoot you for obeying orders.
What is the most disturbing part of the ongoing saga of Deputy Ivory Webb shooting Iraq War Veteran Elio Carrion?
Is it the fact that this whole incident would have been swept under the rug as a "justified shooting" if not for the videotape? (Thank you Rodney King.) Or is it the fact that cops are still treated with kid gloves when they commit heinous crimes like rape, murder, and child molestation? (If you don't think it happens, then you've never worked for a police department.)
Or is it the reality that a Latino war veteran is treated as less worthy of justice, airtime, and headlines than some pretty white girl/runaway bride, etc.?
The San Bernadino County DA's office is shirking its duties by sweeping this under the rug. Attempt voluntary manslaughter? In my eight years working for a major metropolitan police department, I never heard of such a charge. We charged gangsters with attempt murder when the victim was 60 feet away on the other side of a wall.
We charged gangsters with att. murder even when the shooting happened in the middle of a fight.
This is just silly. Ivory Webb should be charged with attempt murder. If he had been a better shot, an Iraq War Veteran would be dead. If not for the videotape, this wouldn't even be investigated as a crime.
