Much ado has been made about the Jack Abramoff scandal and it being a "Republican scandal". For the most part it is; but a new Vanity Fair article has information that it may turn out to be more than that.
Having read that, I realized that this is an opportunity for the Democrats to really take a stand. The common meme is that the Democrats don't stand for anything. Here's their chance. I said so in an email to DNC Chairman Howard Dean.
Check it after the jump...
Dr. Dean,
I am a liberal. I am a Deaniac. I am trying to make myself support the Democratic Party.
I will throw all my spare time to the Democratic Party if you will stand on your comment that if someone took money from Abramoff in exchange for favors, "they're in big trouble".
In the Vanity Fair article, it states that Abramoff gave over a million dollars to Dems.
Please have the Democratic Party take a stand. Haul these Democrats in and have them accept responsibility for their actions.
Professional losers like Carville and the DLC types like to downplay your role in the party. If you take a stand and get your name out there with "these guys are crooks" behind it and then list them, you will effectively own the party.
Honest Americans will come out of the woodwork to support you not as a Democrat but as an honest person in Washington who is leading the clean up effort.
We have your back, please make it happen.
Thanks for all your hard work.
Now, lots of people will jump on the opportunity to say that Dean doesn't have that power. I disagree. There is no reason that he can't change the perception about his position by calling out criminals.
Here's hoping he does.
