Well, once again Jon Stewart and the Daily Show show 'fake-news' that is actually newsworthy. Last night, his guest was an Iraqi General under Saddam and is currently a National Securtiy Advisor to Iraq. His name is Gen. Georges Sada. He was on the show to hawk his new book called "Saddam's Secrets". During his interview, Jon asked him if he was aware of any WMD's during his tenure under Saddam. He stated that, "Saddam hid all of his WMD's in Syria," right before the coalition invasion in 2003. He stated that he personally knows that Saddam hid all of his WMD's, which he admitted were mostly materials to try to create WMD's, in Syria because the pilots who flew them told him so. He also said that he predicts within the coming months, we will all be given this information about the existence of WMD's in Syria that Saddam put there before the Iraqi Invasion.
Now obviously, it is perfectly normal to have some skepticism since the President himself admitted that we had faulty intelligence and Saddam in fact did not have any WMD's. But one can't help but cast some doubt on that assertion now that this man is contradicting that. It's difficult to completely go along with him since his sole purpose on the Daily Show was to promote his new book.
But what if he is indeed right and Saddam did have WMD's? What if the government does find them in Syria in the coming months? If this is in fact true, than why hasn't this been talked about earlier? If the President even states that WMD's weren't there but it now shows that Saddam did have them but transported them, how are we expected to trust anything that comes out of this administration? If this is true, than he basically gave the President the greatest way to manuver himself out of opposition and hesitation and put him back in the good graces of conservative America.
But to many, will this revelation do anything to assuage the masses and their perception of this war? If it's proven that Saddam did have WMD's, will it change the minds of the doubters and nay-sayer's? Unfortunately, I think it will. I think if again it is true, that it will rally the conservative base and almost rejuvenate this administration. And if it does, than the Dem's can say good-bye to getting back control of the Congress. All this will do is prove that the President was right to go to war in Iraq and he will be revered by his party as a hero and liberator. And since the Dem's have continually been unable to bring forth an actual, viable plan for an exit strategy in Iraq that won't leave them in an all-out civil war, the country's confidence will once again be in the Republicans who so bravely went against a mad-mad with WMD's and will be deemed victorious in the process even though American soliders and innocent Iraqi's continue to be killed everyday.
To say his book is controversal is an understatement. If his statements in this book are true, than the ramifications it will have on American politics will be mind-blowing. Not only will it prove this administration correct for going to war in the first place, but it will only help to solidify the conservative montra and the people who once had doubt, will more than likely start to give their support once again to the neocons currently in office or to the ones that are running this year.
