I've been waiting for quite some time to find a comprehensive position that I could get behind that both explained the "Global War on Terror" in simple terms and laid out a position for the Democrats (and really anyone who wants to promote what this country is supposed to be about) to take into the 2006 mid-terms and the 2008 elections.
I think I may have finally found it. The key Graph on the flip

(take some measure of kindness on a kossacks first diary ever)
"The 'war on terror' is a fraud, serving only the corporate interests of the petroleum, private security, construction, logistics, and defense industries. Our national security is amply provided, by the largest concentration of military might on earth and in history. International terrorism is a cause for concern, not panic; the resources are in place to deal with it, including an honest inquiry into legitimate causes of antipathy toward the U.S. There are critical problems of economic sustainability and diminishing democracy at home, and of peace and justice around the world, that we can and will address as top priorities."
In the spirit of full disclosure, I know the author personally.
