Lately Bush has been peddling the talking point that people should vote for Democrats if they want "the government in their pocket." The implication, of course, that Dems would raise taxes, and that taxes are the largest evil in the world. This talking point hasn't made the idiotbox yet, but it's probably only a matter of time before Tweety and Co. start asking such brilliant questions as:
"Why are Dems such money hungry bastards?"
"How much money will Dems demand from the American people?"
and
"Why do Dems need their hands in someone else's pants?"
It's never too early to turn the frame around...
As we all know, political discussion has become a framing battlefield. It is much easier for a charlaton to win an argument by altering the mindset than it is to actually discuss facts. This is how Republicans win elections. Let's get things going on this talking point with some turn around lines. When someone says that Dems want the Government in your pocket, I'd say:
"Well, Republicans want the government in the pockets of big business."
"Better that than a government in my bedroom."
or
"Better to tax Americans than owe interest to foriegn powers."
What would you say?
