Hey, anybody interested in being FEMA director? It looks like the job's still open.
According to a new article in the Times (subscription required):
Unconvinced that the administration is serious about fixing the Federal Emergency Management Agency or that there is enough time to get it done before President Bush's second term ends, seven of these candidates for director or another top FEMA job said in interviews that they had pulled themselves out of the running.
How serious can the Bush administration really be about disaster relief if they haven't filled a slot that's been open for nearly six months now?
It's becoming clearer and clearer with time why the same cast of characters is being juggled around between different positions: no one else is willing to take jobs in this administration. If only the common sense that people outside of DC were displaying could be grafted into the heads of the idiots and dunderheads in Congress, so that they'd show a backbone and take the Idiot-in-Chief to task for his stupid and illegal manuevers.
