I know a lot of Kossacks aren't wild about the New Republic, but you'd like
this piece. (I think it might be subscription-only..sigh.) Whatever you think about immigration, the writer makes a good point about the kind of TV ads Dems need to be running, period (a point that echoes part of Crashing the Gate -- I'm
not claiming plagiarism -- just saying he has the same good idea). Emphasis added:
<<Democrats could produce a spot with a ten-year-old girl in the kitchen helping her grandmother bake cookies. The girl might say, "Those Republicans call immigrants nasty names. In our family, we call immigrants Grandma and Grandpa." Ads that go for the emotional jugular tend to attract free media attention, and therefore do not require expensive media buys to be effective. How many people actually saw the Swift Boat ad except in a news account?>>
