This rainy Seattle Saturday marks the launch of the
eagerly-awaited (by at least two of you that I know of) Daily Kos Read-Along. Why am I calling it a Read-Along rather than a book club? I have no idea. I'm kinda like our glorious Commander-in-Chimp in that way, I guess: I just do things because I do them. Except I do things like calling a book club a Read-Along; he does things like send up
mushroom clouds in the Nevada desert. I dunno, I kinda like my own little personality quirks better than I like his. Mine are adorable; his are genocidal.
Anyhoo, back to the subject at hand. Follow me below the fold, and I'll actually get to the point of this diary, which is to introduce our first Read-Along selection....
...
Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire. I hope you all have already got your copies. If you haven't, it's not too late, so get out there and get it!
Mr. Maguire has very thoughtfully organized his book into sections -- five of them -- that are tailor-made for a Read-Along. Hence, starting today, we shall read Part I: Munchkinlanders. Future installments will come on a weekly basis, and next week's Read-Along diary will introduce the next installment.
In the meantime, bookmark this diary, start reading, and come back here to analyze, discuss, deconstruct, and otherwise criticize (the book, not yours truly).
Happy reading, everyone!
