When was the last time you met a Canadian who was in the USA illegally? Take a minute and think about it, I'll wait.
Now, when was the last time you met a Mexican who was in the USA illegally? Easier question right?
So what's the difference? It's probably not the cold weather and hockey. More likely it's the strong economy, good jobs, health care, education, low crime, better quality of life, and social justice that Canadians enjoy as opposed to the Mexicans.
Bottem line, the only real solution to illegal immigration from Mexico is to help fix the economy etc. of Mexico. I'm sure the Mexican government would welcome the help. Once they're on their feet, they will have their own problem with illegal immigration from Central America. They could then borrow a page from our book and help out the economies of Guatemala and Belize with a happy sort of domino effect.
Would it cost too much? I certainly haven't crunched the numbers but it would allow us to stop wasting money on other projects to stop illegal immigration which don't work (e.g. that ridiculous fence!). It would also open up a new market to US goods which would help our economy.
Can't be done? We rebuilt the Japanese economy after WWII. Why can't we do the same for Mexico?
So that's my solution to illegal immigration from Mexico. I feel it's a more compassionate, humanistic, and Christian approach than anything I've heard so far. Nothing else the government has come up with has helped, and I've yet to hear anybody make this suggestion. So there ya go.
PS: I apologize for the arrogant tone of this piece, that's just my writing style.
PPS: Please post any idea you have to handle illegal immigration.
