So last night I am a slave to the tube watching 24 when two new car ads run throughout the show. I have never seen these cars before nor the ads for them. These must be new introduction ad campaigns.
I think this is Corporate America Japan realizing that now is the time to roll out their high mileage cars that have been for sale overseas for some years now. Of course GM and Ford can't seem to think without using a barrel of oil.
More after the flip...
Introducing the
Honda Fit with it's small form factor, 1.5L engine and 38 MPG.
Honda is pitching it as a youth lifestyle choice, and at less than $14,000, not too shabby. A complete brochure is available at the link above.
Let's not forget the the Toyota Yaris (complete with little flying anime thingy that seems to shit on screen - no joke).
Starting at $11,000 with options for a hatchback or even a four door sedan, this car clocks in at 40 mpg with the same sized engine as the Honda Fit.
I think Toyota is also gearing this toward the youth crowd, especially with the defecating flying thingy and the digital city guide with free mp3 and IM buddy icons. but the seller here is plainly the 40mpg.
So why can't Ford or GM come up with something nice and economical?
