FOX News is the most trusted news source in the U.S., according to a headline in today's Reuters, but the details from the survey are more revealing. For example, among 10 media types, the least trusted source for news are internet blogs.
Reuters, the BBC, and Media Center commissioned the U.K. polling firm Globescan to conduct a multi-country survey of media influence. http://www.globescan.com/...
In the U.S., FOX News receives the highest level of trust among respondents. However, the actual percentage who have trust in FOX News is only 11%, and this "highest level of trust" is also shared with CNN. ABC News comes a distant third with only 4% holding any trust in them as a news source.
Other countries with relatively low rankings for the most trusted news source include South Korea (KBS at 18%), Nigeria (Channels TV at 16%), and India (AAJ Tak at 11%).
On the other hand, 59% of respondents in Egypt trust Al-Jazeera news, and 32% of respondents in the U.K. trust the BBC.
Globally, across 10 countries, the BBC is the most trusted news source at 48%, followed by CNN at 44%. Among internet portals, 30% of respondents globally have some or a lot of trust in Google.
National television is the most trusted news source globally among ten media types (82%), followed by national newspapers, local newspapers, and radio.
Internet blogs come in last on this list and are only trusted by 25% of global respondents (23% outright distrust internet blogs).
Globescan has detected a steady erosion of trust in media, and in this survey 28% of respondents claimed to have switched from a medium that lost their trust in the past year. Demand for news, however, remains strong. Fully 72% of global respondents follow the news closely.
In almost all countries, media are trusted more than governments. The notable exception is the U.S., where 67% have trust in the government compared to 59% who have trust in the media.
