There's just no denying it anymore. Six months from today, on November 8, 2006, we will all wake up to a new world order. And our misery will be (mostly) over.
George Bush will be powerless -- remarkably, even more powerless than today -- in the presence of a Democratic House and, God willing, a Democratic Senate. Six months from today will be the first day of the rest of our lives, if you'll pardon the drama.
And on that day, the Republicans will be OUR bitches.
On that morning, we'll look back over the last six months in awe of all that has transpired.
Bush's approval, such as it is, will have fallen into the 20's. And Americans will, for all of Rove's best efforts, show up at the polls knowing that this election really is a referendum on George W. Bush.
Six months from now, we'll know that Ney and Burns were only the beginning of the Abramoff scandal...and that dozens of others wait in the indictment line behind them.
We will have survived another brutal hurricane season -- and the agency that needs to "dismantle and start over" will have dismantled more Southern and Eastern coastal metropolises.
We won't even remember the name "Michael Hayden," because his name will have been withdrawn from the CIA leadership post nomination long ago, in mid-June.
Karl Rove will have been indicted by Patrick Fitzgerald, and court briefings will reveal the star witness in the Scooter Libby case: one Dick Cheney.
Gas prices will have exceeded $4.00 a gallon. Rationing will have peaked around Labor Day. "Peak Oil" will have become common vernacular.
Six months from today, the number of American troops dead in Iraq will be within 200 of the number who perished on 9/11. And the country we tried to "free" will be deeper into civil war.
Six months from today, an amazing ray of hope will shine through the political clouds, as the State of Wisconsin becomes the first in the nation to reject a Constitutional ban on same-sex marriage.
That's what I expect to wake up to on Wednesday, November 8, 2006.
Add to the list.
P.S. How did "Bitch" get to be the keyword of the day?
