Normally I wouldn't post about health issues here, but yesterday there was a link posted to some nuts testimonial about how parasites cured his asthma. It described the writers trip to a developing country and his adventures in plodding through vats of feces in order to intentionally infest himself with hookworms.
This is nuts.
An estimated 85% of Americans are already infested with human parasites. Medical testing for parasites is very limited and unreliable. The easiest ways people get hookworms are by walking barefoot on soil (with or without grass). Another common way people get a wide variety of parasites is from the cats and dogs that live in their homes (sorry puppy and pootie lovers). The other lovely things that go hand in hand with parasites are fungus and candida.

I am not a doctor and I am not offering any diagnosis. The sad part is that your doctor probably won't offer one either. Doctors today are trained to deal with viruses and bacteria. Anything else and they are baffled or have no intrest in telling you about something that isn't fixed with a pill or surgery.
It is true that most of these infections occur in developing countries, but the rate of parasitic-related disorders in North America is skyrocketing. An astounding number of people would test positive for parasites. This is from the Parasitology Department of the University of Cambridge, England: "Pinworm. An extremely common nematode infection, particularly in temperate areas such as Western Europe and North America... It has been estimated that the annual incidence of infection is over 200 million, this probably being a conservative figure. Samples of caucasian children in the USA and Canada have shown incidences of infection of 30% to 80%, with similar levels in Europe."
"Parasites are the missing diagnosis in the genesis of many chronic health problems, including diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and endocrine system. Most individuals would be truly amazed if they knew the extraordinarily high number of Americans who are unknowingly infected by parasites..." - Dr. Hermann R. Bueno, Fellow of Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene of London

Parasites basically turn your internal organ into swiss cheese, starting with your intestines. Many suck the nutrients they need to survive from your blood. Others compete with your own digestive system. They all release toxins into your body as they release their waste.
The toxins they release force your liver and other organs to work overtime trying to process the extra load. Also since pathogenic parasites are almost always anaerobic (don't like oxygen) their toxins also promote their desired environment disrupting if not devastating your normal intestinal flora.

Now here's the chicken and the egg. What goes hand in hand with parasite and seems to promote these anaerobic visiters is fungus and candida, which is part of your normal digestive flora - men too. Vulnerability to fungal and candida infections is a constant side effect of antibiotics. While the greater risk is of those taken directly as a prescription, some are absorbed by antibacterial soap and from those given to livestock. When this balance is disrupted candida go to town.
While local candida infections can and are treated easily, the symptoms of systemic infections (such as recurring local infections) are usually ignored by doctors who send patients home with statements like "it's all in your head", "it's just stress take it easy", or exacerbate the situation by giving nore antibiotics.
Almost everyone has seen the commercials for the nailfungus pills. They made that because one of the symptoms of a systemic fungal infection is nail fungus that won't clear when treatedfrom the outside. This stuff takes months to work and unless you have very messed up toenails your doctor won't give it to you. It also has some nasty side effects. There is a treatment with no side effects (it destroys cell walls which humans don't have) but it involves a series of shots given by a doctor who is presumably too busy or something.
here are some symptoms
constant fatigue, oral thrush, abdominal pain, bloating and indigetion, joint pain, weight gain, rashes, clogged sinuses, diarhea, eye irritation, various problems in the digestive tract
this site has a big list of symptoms http://yeastinfectionadvisor.com/
The thing that the doctors don't really address when giving prescriptions for antibiotics is how to restore the good bacteria that are destroyed by them. There are dozens of "probiotic" pills out there that can let you pop one or mabey two strains that most likely won't survive your stomach acid to get where they need to go. There are also a bunch of herbal things that flush out parasites. I'm not pushing any specific one but they seem better then the presriptions out there.
There is a cheap easy way to keep your flora balanced - home made yogurt or kefir. The first is REALLY easy, boil milk, let it cool a bit, mix in some yogurt for the cultures pour it into a couple of jars and stash it in the oven with the light on over night. The second, kefir, you probably never heard of. This is where yogurt comes from. Don't worry, once you get ahold of some grains its even easier than yogurt. Just plunk em in milk and let it sit on the counter over night.
this site will tell you more than everything you ever wanted to know about kefir http://users.sa.chariot.net.au/...
well I can't type anymore right now, but if there is any interest I will post again on this
