Hit! Splatter! Crunch! Duck! I want some popcorn and junior mints.
It's happening! It's coming down around their ears. The chickens are starting to come home to roost, they are reaping what they've sown, they're coming up short on their egg count, the Shit is Hitting the Fan.
I've compiled a list of newsworthy scandals that have either come to light or resurfaced in the last couple of weeks.
More below the fold
Let's review and feel free to add recent scandal/bad news I may have overlooked:
1. George Bush hits an all time low of 31% approval according to a recent polls. Look for something in the 20s next week.
2. The United States Government is spying on "tens of millions of Americans" via not so secret agreements with major phone service providers. BushCo says he's only spyng on Al Qaeda. USA Today says otherwise. See numbers 1 and 2 above.
3. The world awaits the decision to indict presidential advisor Karl Rove who, for political purposes, lied about leaking the name of a CIA Analyst assigned to monitor nuclear development in Iran. Will this disempower BushCo right hand man? Will he resign? What happens when we have Bush minus Bush's Brain? Maybe this?
4. The Secret Service releases obviously incorrect logs of convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff's visits to the White House, showing only two visits over several years. This number is contradicted by the president's own former press secretary and photos of Abramoff appearances on dates other than those identified. Rep. Bob Ney is identified as "Representative number 1" in his aide's plea deal.
5. HUD Secretary Alphonso Jackson tells a group of business people in Texas that he didn't award a HUD contract to an otherwise qualified contractor because the contractor said he didn't like George Bush. Jackson's spokesperson first identifies the minority contractor who suffered this blatant discrimination then says it didn't happen and, basically, that Jackson is a liar as opposed to a bushCo carpetbagger. She's on "scheduled leave." Maybe she wouldn't wear the "I'm with Stupid" uniform required at HUD these days.
6. Porter Goss is fired and given hours to pack his bags. BushCo says this has been in the works for a long time, word is there was no notice. This follows on the heel of a firing of a soon to be retired CIA employee for what seems to be trumped up reasons. Related? Who knows, I'm temporarily out of subpoenas and security clearances.
7. CIA Deputy Director Dusty Foggo hand-picked by Porter Goss resigns in disgrace. Someone named Nine Fingers is also implicated (and a kudos to Harper's Ken Silverstein for crediting TPM as a source).
8. Bush nominates General Michael Hayden, godfather of the NSA wiretapping scandal, as the new head of the CIA.
9. Leaks warn that the Cunningham/MZM bribery/hooker/poker scandal is bigger and broader than anyone outside the prosecution team knows; the Dukestir is silent on the matter and reportedly not cooperating. The FBI concentrates on the Watergate Hotel poker parties. California Representative Jerry Lewis is now under investigation by the feds for his connection to the scandal.
10. White House press secretary Tony Snow has yet to hold a press conference (I don't count introducing Negroponte) and instead wields a mighty fax machine to attack the New York Times, CBS, and USA Today.
11. The Republican house passes $70 million oop, billion in tax cuts for the wealthy.
12. As you read this diary, the Dow is dropping 100, no 125, no 150 points.
13. New Orleans achieves milk carton status.
14. Americans can't afford gasoline.
15. The US dollar hits new low.
16. The feds raise the short-term interest rate to it's highest level in five years.
And, finally,
17. The 2,424th American soldier died this month in Iraq and 1,091 Iraqis died in April in an illegal war that was, is, and will continue to be George Bush's real legacy.
It's been a rough couple of weeks for boy George and his Merry Minions. Who knows what will happen? Is he seriously thinking that anyone named Bush will ever hold the executive office again? (Although I have to say, it's more like Fredo's kiss than a real show of support). Nature abhors a vacuum and there's been a vacuum on press coverage of scandals we've known and loved for years. I think the Shit is Hitting the Fan in a big way.
So, here's the question: What will happen due to recent reports on the scandal plagued Administration? Will Bush hit 15% approval? Will he be run outta town? Impeached? Resign? Attack Iran? What's your oh-so-educated guess?
And did I miss anything above? Feel free to add to the collection.
