First off, what the president calls
"leaking," I call
whistle blowing.
As a general matter, every time sensitive intelligence is leaked, it hurts our ability to defeat this enemy. Our most important job is to protect the American people from another attack, and we will do so within the laws of our country.
~ GWB Yesterday
As a general matter, Mr. President, you are subject to the law. My most important job is to do whatever it takes to ensure that you are removed from office and prosecuted.
How am I doing so far?
The President, who, along with his closest circle of "advisors" have leaked sensitive information like a broken levee (no pun intended) to serve their own duplicitous agenda, has no business complaining about leaks. What these folks are doing after all is not leaking, it is whistle blowing.
Imagine for a moment that you are working for a company and suddenly discover that it is practicing some policy or procedure that you firmly oppose. Further, your opposition is rooted in the damage it will do to your fellow workers, your clients, and the general public (let's just say that you work for, I don't know; ENRON.) Would you feel that it was your duty to report it? Would you feel that its potential impact transcends your "steady paycheck?" It is my firm belief that this is precisely what's going on behind the thick marble walls of our government's most powerful agencies.
Keep in mind that many of the directors of these agencies are political appointees of the President and are highly likely to be loyalists to his sinister agenda. But beneath this top layer of bureaucracy lies an enormous group of people who have no ideological affiliation with the "boss." Rather, these folks are likely dedicated patriots who have dedicated their professional lives to real security. I propose that these folks are in a very tight spot. Many are likely diametrically opposed to these attacks on the Constitutional American. Therefore, the frequency of people who have risked the ultimate career sacrifice has increased dramatically since Bush began degrading all things American.
And so, I say thank you and keep it up, my beloved whistle blowers! I cannot guarantee that you will not suffer for your great patriotism. However, I guarantee that you will be vindicated once this cancer on our nation is at last removed (perhaps very, very soon!) Upon which, the drinks are on me.
So, please keep it up, whistle blowers. You are serving your country most honorably. Don't worry, it will all be over soon. Your quiet quest to preserve my rights from tyranny shall not go unnoticed any longer.
PS: I was thinking of starting a Friday art and illustration diary. If anyone is interested, please let me know.
I thought that people could work on stuff and I could post it...

Update
You can help whistleblowers and motivate more civil servants to blow the whistle by urging everyone you know to call their legislators and insist that they pass the following bills that would give whistleblowers desperately needed legal protections from reprisal. The bills are H.R. 1317 and S.494 (the Federal Employees Protection of Disclosure Act) and H.R. 5112. Executive Branch Reform Act of 2006. Specifics are available on the website of the Government Accountability Project, Goverup.com and Thomas.
