Filing closed in Florida at midday and
lookee lookee we have a starter in all 25 House districts.
David Denenberg also withdrew in NY-03 for health reason 2 days after his campaign launch so this race goes back onto the uncontested list
*sigh*.
Below the fold for the inevitable update............... Oh yeh and check out the 50 State Page and give Barry Welsh some love.
422 Races filled!!! Yep 422. That's nose bleed height and it ain't over yet.
That 422 total includes:
1) 419 where candidates have filed or have active websites.
2) 2 races where we have write in candidates running:
PA-09 - Tony Barr
Congressional District Map
PA-15 - Charles Dertinger
Congressional District Map
If you can believe it there is a Green candidate running as a write in as well which will make it harder for Dertinger to get the necessary votes to get on the ballot in the general! Thanks guys.
PA Primary is on May 16th BTW.
3) 1 Race where our candidate is unconfirmed:
MI-03 - Jim Rinck - Who won plaudits for his astute observation that he was stupider but louder than his incumbent GOP opponent! - A novel way to announce you are running!
The Michigan filing deadline is on May 16th so he will no doubt file soon.
Congressional District Map
So of course that leaves us with a mere 13 Unopposed Republican candidates. Yep only 13!
This 13 includes:
1) 3 races where the filing deadline has passed and there won't be a Dem on the ballot.
AL 6 - Congressional District Map
MS 3 - Congressional District Map
TX 11 - Congressional District Map
2) 1 Race where the filing deadline has passed but a write in is possible:
CA 42 - Congressional District Map.
There is currently no rumored candidate but the natives over at Calitics are scouring the land for a starter - watch this space.
3) 9 races where we are still looking for a candidate:
AZ 6 - Congressional District Map. Kevin Jackson (the 2004 nominee) is not friggin running OK? I don't care that the DCCC and Act Blue list him. At this stage he has raised $0 and his website has gone. The AZ Dems don't list him as running either.
LA 4 - Congressional District Map. There is currently no rumored candidate.
LA 5 - Congressional District Map. There is currently no rumored candidate.
LA 6 - Congressional District Map. There is currently no rumored candidate.
LA 7 - Congressional District Map. There has been the odd blog mention of 1996 nominee Hunter Lundy stepping up. A best a huge longshot as he has said nothing to confirm that he is even thinking about running
NY 3 - Congressional District Map Denenberg withdrew so there is no current rumoured candidate.
OK 1 - Congressional District Map. There is currently no rumored candidate.
VA 4 - Congressional District Map. There is currently no rumored candidate and it looks like the VA Dems have given up. - It's nice to see Raising Kaine covering more than Webb V Miller
VA 6 - Congressional District Map. There is currently no rumored candidate. It is "interesting" that Raising Kaine can blog furiously about how we might endorse the wrong candidate in the 7th but barely a peep about the 4th or 6th where there probably won't be any Democratic candidate.
We have heaps of time to find candidates in all the above states except Virginia where we really need a candidate to pop up by the end of the month.
It is hard to overstate how fantastically well the Democrat party has gone in finding candidates to run in every district. Hat tip to Howard Dean in particular for the 50 State Strategy.
