This is partly in response to Tom Rinaldo who posted the diary
It's Never Too Early To Say: Run Wes Run!!!.
Dear Tom:
1. While the title of your diary is just fine, the post is rather negative towards a Gore Candidacy. No one is saying that Wes shouldn't run, or that his supporters shouldn't pitch his case. We're asking Al Gore to run as well.
2. Not many of us are interested in harping about 2000, unless it is raised. And yes, in that election, Gore won the popular vote and most likely won FL as well.
3. But, we're much more concerned about 2008 and beyond, and what you're seeing is a wide spread realization that Al Gore has the best combination of intelligence, experience, record, and most importantly a far-reaching vision of an America that works in everyone's interest, and of a world where strong progress and long term sustainability are amicably married.
4. So you say: "When John Kerry or Al Gore come onto the screen they shut down". Hope you haven't missed Gore's MLK-Day speech.
5. Your diary is replete with Gore and Kerry associations, which is a type of a trick play. No offense to Sen. Kerry, and in fact I may consider supporting him for the nomination in 2012 (if it comes to it) if he works to build a consistent and solid legislative record of accomplishments or at least shows hard fought effort for a few years. But comparing John Kerry to Al Gore... let's just say that a far more suitable and interesting comparison can be made between Al Gore and FDR, for both stand visionaries of their respective times.
Al Gore would make a phenomenal President and a formidable candidate in 2008. Wes Clark would make a fine VP for Al Gore (as will a handful of other prospects), and he is an interesting possibility for the front of a ticket.
Bottom line is that whoever wants to run should run, for its a democracy, after all. But we hope that Al Gore will heed the myriad calls urging him to make a run.
So, why not: It's Never Too Early To Say: Run Everyone Run!!!
Yours
NL

Gore in 2008: Just 10 more ECVs!
To those that like to crunch numbers, here is one possible Gore'08 strategy: hold the states he won undisputedly in 2000, and gain just ten more electoral college votes from the remaining states including Florida. Here is a pool of states that total 111 electoral college votes and could possibly be picked up either because Gore came close to winning them in 2000, or because they have have witnessed a Democratic shift in the recent years: FL(27), NH(4), NV(5), CO(9), MO(11), AR(6), TN(11), OH(20), WV(5), VA(13).
And given that he has not been seen on mass media for years, he still seems to enjoy favorables in the mid to high 40s. The details can be found here: Gore: 49% favorable and Preliminary Gore'08 EC calculations.
ps: please don't forget to pledge to see Gore's movie AIT Pledge site, tell everyone about it, and frequent the more recently unveiled AIT blog. And, perhaps, Hit Recommend. Thank you.
Update [2006-5-19 16:59:24 by NeuvoLiberal]: Thanks to Superribbie for pointing out in comments below the error in my initial indirect calculation which gave 11 ECVs as the needed gain by Al Gore. But it turns out, he'd only need 10, a welcome correction.
