I am looking for some help. I have written a speech that I may have to use at some point, but that info is classified. Anyway, I post quasi regularly here and my diaries have never been met with much success. I'm assuming it is because I am a pretty horrible writer. (As an aside, you can read some of my horrible writing by clicking

But back to the subject. I need some peer editing and criticism, and there is no better place to have that done than the snooty zone knows as Daily Kos.
I appreciate any help.
This state has so much potential and it is being squandered due to the fear elected officials have. North Carolina has been on the losing side of history for too long and the time has come for someone to stand with the courage to say so. This is the home of tobacco. After years of poisoning the country, North Carolina is now the capitol of cancer research. Having supplied more soldiers than any other state during the rebellion, North Carolina now strengthens our union basing the elite protectors of our nation. Despite being a hotbed of racial strife and slavery, North Carolinian African-Americans pioneered of the Civil Rights movement. We are making amends for our history's mistakes. While we try to make progress defending the country, farming our land and healing our nation, a certain segment of our population tries to stop us. It is because of this conflict that I am entering this race.
Conservatism has always been on the loosing end of history. Conservatives demanded racial segregation. Conservatives stood in the way of stopping genocide in Yugoslavia. Conservatives created the Powell doctrine only to ignore it when they saw fit. Conservatives sent our brothers and sisters to fight a war without proper troop levels, equipment, or body protection. Conservatives made pledges in 1994, only to toss them aside due to their own personal ambitions. Conservatives have squandered the biggest budget surpluses in history and have caused the largest budget deficits of all time. Conservatives ignore environmental destruction and give tax breaks to the companies that pollute our waters and filth our air. Under conservative rule our nation gets poorer, CEO's get richer, our air and water gets dirtier, our faith in government truthfulness erodes, and our military gets weaker.
Liberals have given us the minimum wage. Liberals have given us Social Security and Medicare. And when conservative government increases unemployment, just remember that Liberals created unemployment insurance. Liberals protect the vote for African-Americans. Liberals gave women the right to vote. Liberals created progressive taxation. Liberals created and now protect free public education. Liberals demanded the creation of a Homeland Security department. All these great accomplishments have been done over the complaints and objections of conservatives. Liberal is not a dirty word, it is the strongest, most pro-American word we have in our lexicon.
Here is what I believe:
1. Everyone is entitled to a full and quality life.
2. We all have a moral responsibility to make the lives of our neighbors the best they can be.
3. We must all stand for justice and not fall for the easy road of selfishness and greed.
Those are the three principles in which this campaign is founded. This campaign is being established so that we can break North Carolina out of the clutches of the backwards self-defeating politics we have subscribed to throughout our history. North Carolina should be the state from where the rest of the country learns to govern. We should be a state where our personal God influences our politics but the pulpit releases our ballots. North Carolina should be the state where all its citizens treat one other with respect, love, and curiosity.
The truth is, we all want the same things. We all want our schools, country, and streets safe. But there is a right way to get those goals and there is a wrong way. Building gated communities and hiding from poverty is not the right way. Ensuring racial and gender equality, educational opportunity, and equitable networking is. Closing your eyes and remaining ignorant of other cultures does not heal racial divides. Refusing to befriend a person because of the way they speak, dress, or because of the music they listen to is wrong. We all miss out when we don't share our likes with each other. We are all neighbors, and the best neighborhoods are those in which the people work together.
There is a great state right at our feet and it is our duty as North Carolinians to fulfill the potential and use the gifts we have for the best purposes. The best gifts we have are each other. Together we can break the grip of ignorance that conservatives have thrusted upon our state and move towards a place where we all succeed. But it starts with you. The truth has a beginning and the truth starts with you.
Thank you for any help.
