This is a very cool web application. For a political junkie, it might even be seen as some form of virtual crack. Simply enter a zip code and a complete break down of political contributors is presented in an easy to read format. If you have ever wonder who gives to political parties in your area, or areas you are interested in, now you can know.
It even includes a map, where the icons are clickable. A name, amount, and address usually appear when you select the various data points. You can find out who in your hood is giving to and how much. This could also be a key resource for candidates with a small organizations to build a mailing list. But mostly, it's a fun tool to see how blue or red an area is based on its zip code and campaign contributions.
This project was performed by Matthew Kane as a project in Markus Jakobsson's Fall '05 security class at Indiana University. Virtual tip of the hat to that guy.
Here is a sample for my soon to be home Brooklyn, ZIP 11211:
Total Number of Contributors: 107

Money from Democrats: $44,826

Money from Republicans: $9,583
Percent from Republicans: 17.613%
Total Addresses Not Found: 5

I am not gonna copy and paste in the maps and graphics because they are big and will destroy the margin. Have fun! You just might find out your neighbor gave a lot of cash to Bush like I just did.
