As many of you know, I have been active in the fight for expanded stem cell research. I am bound to a wheelchair due to years of enduring LMG muscular dystrophy. This disease has not only disrupted my life, but the lives of my wife, my kids, my parents and all those who help me get through the day. Well, back in 1998, my doctor gave me some hope when he told me about embryonic stem cell research.
The only problem is that George W. Bush and the religious right are trying to take that hope away.
When President Clinton became the first president to authorize federal funds for embryonic stem cell research it gave us hope. This was a policy Vice-President Gore had intended to continue, but along with his Religious Right friends, President Bush has severely restricted this research, mostly with a lot of fact manipulation.
Well DEFCON has struck a blow for both the truth and for perhaps one of the most promising avenues for finding a myriad of cures and treatments. In a brilliant ad in the New York Times where they take on the dissemblers of the Religious Right who oppose embryonic stem cell research. Here is the ad: http://defconblog.org/...
From all of us who suffer with disease and disability, and from all our loved ones who care for us and sacrifice too---THANK YOU DEFCON!
