It has just been announced that the New York Stock Exchange will be acquiring Euronext, the conglomerate of major European stock markets for $10 billion. Listening to Bloomberg Radio, a commentator was asked what this and other recent developments presage. The commentator responded, candidly: "Frankly, it appears that we are heading toward global oligopoly." What does this mean? Global consolidation on a massive scale. Each nation's stock market will become part of a conglomerate stock market, and in 10 or 20 years, we are likely to have only a handful, perhaps 2 or 3 major global stock markets. Similarly, other global industries are consolidating. We are heading toward global monopolies or oligopolies. World fascism, in other words, domination of nations by industries (is this not the definition of fascism?). Did the fascists actually win World War II, in the larger scheme of things? The 1000 year reich?
