Is Daily Kos
a closed society? I read with much chargrin the recent banning of one of my favorite authors, Chris Floyd.
I have read Chris floyd's journalism and reporting since before such online forums as CounterPunch, Christian Science Monitor, Columbia Journalism Review and other places for as long as I can remember.
I am quite shocked and disturbed that he has been banned from dkos. If, in fact he has. My question is is this true? If so why?
The dkos search engine doesn't seem to bring up the results of this taking place so I can not speculate on the event in question an therefore only have
Floyd's comments on this incident. As I like to weigh all views.
And if true is that what we want as an open and progressive site such as dkos. The idea of the Open Society was introduced by Henri Bergson in Two Sources of Religion and Morality. The idea is developed most thouroughly by Sir Karl Popper in The Open Society and Its Enemies. In Popper's definition the central idea behind the Open Society is that it is open because of (1) its commitment to self-criticism and (2) its facility for self-correction.
The problem for me is the fear that this brings up in even having to write this, Will I get banned for asking this?
Is this where we have come to? Have we been so attacked by the rightwing that we have to adopt their strategies of falling in line to even combat them? They rule with fear. Is that what we want?
I'm sorry if this has been discussed I did not find tags in the searches, I do not post here as often as I would like as I work two jobs and haven't the time or energy to keep up in Bush's economy. But, if true I should reevaluate and reexamine my online time here.
