Al Kissling has
announced for the New Mexico 2nd Congressional district. That's super-BushBot Rep. Steve Pearse's seat. He has a website, soon to be revised (Monday, they say), and he needs some help on developing his message, as you can see from the site. I'm not in that district, myself, by about a mile, but I know the country a bit.
kissling for congress works for his campaign and asked me to help get him some mojo here. She plans to be around for reaction to the commentary, and I've given her a bit of advice, not that I'm any kind of a wonk on this stuff.
NM2 is a border district, stretching across New Mexico from Texas to Arizona, with a couple of hundred miles of border.
The district has a mix, demographically: ranchers, farmers, oil folks and a lot of Hispanics. It also includes Las Cruces, NM's third largest city, with NM State University (the Aggies).
Kissling, who has lived in Las Cruces since retiring from the ministry in 1998 after 35 years of service, is challenging Steve Peace in the November 2006 election. Kissling is a graduate of Princeton, Union Seminary in New York and San Francisco State University.
Below is the latest attempt at a promo, still being worked on, and she's open to suggestions. This is a home-grown effort here, not slick operators, as you can see. I don't know Al Kissling, just heard about him last night, but he's in the race, and any heat we can bring to this race costs the 'thugs money to defend their seat. Pearce is the guy who replaced Joe Skeen a couple of cycles ago, and he's not yet fully entrenched, and definitely no bright light on the marquee.
Can we get some blogosphere help for Al Kissling? He's asking for it.

Democratic Candidate Al Kissling for New Mexico's 2nd District
Hi everyone, my name is Al Kissling and I am running for Congress in the 2nd district of New Mexico. I am running against one of the many rubber stamps in this administration who only favors the corporations and does not support the people that are supposed to be represented.
The district that I am running in is geographically huge. The district goes from 2 precincts in Bernalillo County down to Las Cruces, West to the Arizona border and East through Roswell, Carlsbad, and Hobbs. This district varies in the types of people who live here. In the west portion of the district you will find environmentalists, people concerned with immigration and the big problem with meth in this state. In the east, you have oil and gas, and some ranching. Because of the different types of folks in this district, marketing can be tricky. Its hard to sell to environmentalists and to oil and gas that you should not drill. Of course the environmentalists eat it up while oil and gas folks want to kill you .
I am running for many reasons, but mostly because I believe it is time that we take back our country, I believe we must fight for what is right in this country and that is OUR values... the Progressive Values that must prevail. I believe we must Save the American Dream for future generations. We must make sure that our children and grandchildren are not left with huge amounts of debt due to irresponsible spending and we must make sure that social security is protected.
Another issue that I believe we must focus on is how we are going to balance our budget. The Republicans in control of Congress continue with their polices of borrow and spend, borrow and spend, borrow and spend. We must not allow them to take over and continue. This is immoral and we must fix it.
My opponent, the incumbent Congressman, continues every day to support the Administration and their corrupt policies. Steve Pearce makes his money from the oil and gas industry. Just the other day he voted against criminal and civil penalties for the oil companies who want to price gouge.
My opponent, has almost half a million dollars and he hasn't even started to truly raise money. He gets most of his money from oil and gas and big corporations who work against the interests of the people of this district and the country. He got $2000 from Wal-mart the most anti-people corporation in this country.
We must take him out this November. We cannot have a Congress who does not value the people of his district. I need your help so that I can spread my message to the people of OUR district and OUR country. Please help me so I can help take back our country and regain the House of Representatives. Al's relationship with the State Party is little or non-existant. We have a big race that the DCCC is watching up North in Albuquerque and so it is hard to get any attention down here. We are working to try to bridge that gap but as of yet we do not have that much help.
