We were having a political discussion last weekend and my mother called me a radical and Pat Buchanan on Hardball last evening said the era that I grew up in was the start of the decline in the American moral compass. I grew up in the 60's early 70's so yes I am old. Did that era frame who I am today as a person? You bet. Am I a radical? I am not sure and I am hoping some of you will let me know.
This is my first diary, but I have been reading the DailyKos for quite sometime and just got up the nerve to register. It has been a bit scary here recently with all of the Troll talks, but I decided it was time to let you know why I am here.
I am here because I believe that all people are created equally. Is that radical?
I am here because I do not believe that the Government has a right to spy on me without a warrant. Is that radical?
I am here because I believe that people have a right to worship or not worship as they choose and not to be dictated to by the views of a Church that I may or may not agree with. Is that radical?
I am here because I believe in tolerance. Is that radical?
I am here because I see our freedom being eroded by the current administration. Is that radical?
I am here because the moral compass that I grew up with in the 60's and 70's was love.
Is that radical?
I am here because I believe in the free exchange of information over the internet for all people. Is that radical?
Since I have been reading the DailyKos I have signed petitions for Net Neutrality and Censure of the President. I have called Verizon (Verizon has a monopoly in our area I have no choice) to lodge a complaint about tracking my phone calls and I have cancelled my AT&T services. I have written to both of my senators on various topics and I am getting ready to call Congressman Manzullo regarding the net neutrality issue although I don't believe it will do any good. I am supporting Doug Auman for Congress in IL-16 and have joined the democrats and progressives in our area for change.
So thank you DailyKos for making me see that I have a responsibility to do something and if I am a radical at least I know where to go to find people who are willing to fight for what I believe.
