As thousands of Kossacks descend upon Las Vegas this evening, and as a beloved and truly vital member of this community is leaving, I would like to take this moment to kick you all in the ass and remind you of one of the most basic tenets of blogging here at Daily Kos.
If a member of the community wishes to remain anonymous, then he or she is to remain anonymous until such time as he or she reveals their identity.
I am Delaware Dem, and many here do actually know who I am in real life, but still I chose to blog anonymously so as to have more freedom in what I say here.
Many here know who Armando is, yet he blogs here anonymously so that he could have more freedom in what he says here.
We all have our reasons for blogging anonymously. Some of us don't want to get fired from our jobs. Some of us just don't like having our proper names blasted on the world's most popular political blog, open for misuse by those without good intentions.
Whatever our reasons, those of us who wish to blog anonymously must always be given the right to do so.
If anyone here ever chooses to "out" a member of this site, it is not only grounds for automatic banning, but it is also proof positive that you are complete slime.
If you cannot respect people's wishes in anonymity, you are truly a troll.
Respect this first commandment of Daily Kos, or else get the fuck out of here and don't let the door hit ya in the ass.
Update: From the FAQ at Daily Kos, in case you just don't believe me:
Many people chose to post to Daily Kos under pseudonyms, keeping their real names confidential. There are many reasons why people would choose not to reveal their real names. Revealing the identify of someone who has chosen to remain anonymous is a bannable offense. It is also a morally reprehensible thing to do.
