This should come as no surprise to anyone in the Daily Kos world, but I thought I'd post it just the same, for the record. Someone had a diary up earlier about the Freepers and their reaction to the DKos and DU reaction to Zarqawi getting offed. So I went on over there...
...and replied to the following post, under the "Dems Irked Over Zarqawi's Death" thread:
Only in Idiot Liberal Land is it bad news when some Third World jihadist lunatic is killed.
These people are sick in the head.
Here's my reply:
As one of your "idiot liberals," and someone who frequently posts on Daily Kos, I have to wonder exactly what it is you guys here have been reading that causes you to make comments like that. Is it only in Free Republic Land that the failure to rejoice in the killing of "some Third World jihadist lunatic" gets transmuted into the sentiment that said killing is "bad news"? Is it only here that one who recognizes the obvious - that Zarqawi's demise will have little if any impact on the level of violence in Iraq or elsewhere, and therefore brings no cause for celebration - gets labeled "sick in the head"?
Do you guys really believe that anyone who refuses to jump up and down screaming with glee and singing "ding, dong, Zarqawi's dead" is on their side? That's what I'm seeing here.
Now that seems really mild compared to what I could have said, but within a few minutes my reply was deleted and my posting privileges revoked (for neither the first nor the last time).
The lesson here is that we DKers can be proud of the way we handle dissent, because over at Free Republic, there is no dissent, no disagreement. There is only a sameness that borders on the incestuous, as one back-slapping Freeper after another parrots the party line. I would love to have gotten into it with the person to whom I replied, but I never got that chance.
