Along the lines with what KOS has already detailed in masterful prose. I just caught this post from TG's Political Wire, Lieberman allies planning independent bid.
Isn't the point here that Lieberman is a Democrat? Shouldn't he be waging a war of ideas with his Democratic opposition? Does Lieberman really believe that his challenger is outside the mainstream of the Democratic party?
more on the flip
So TG's political wire has this post up
Political Wire has learned that key allies of Sen. Joseph Lieberman (D-CT) are making contingency plans for the three-term senator to run as an independent in this fall's U.S. Senate race in Connecticut. Lieberman faces a challenge in the Democratic primary from businessman Ned Lamont.
In fact, an important Lieberman backer, former Connecticut Democratic chairman John F. Droney Jr., is quoted by the Hartford Courant as a supporter of the plan: "I think to be terrorized through the summer by an extremely small group of the Democratic Party, much less the voting population, is total insanity for a person who is a three-term senator."
Though the Lieberman camp is trying to discourage such speculation, the senator's campaign manager was quoted on the radio today saying they would not back Lamont (D) if he won the Democratic primary.
So why the contingency? Why should CT's Democratic voters in the Democratic primary vote for Lieberman if he threatens them(the Democratic voters) with leaving the party if he loses? Joe leave the party already. I heard you speak here in Detroit back in the fall of 2003 at the Arab-American conference. We booed you then, and we'll boo you now.
Why threaten an independent bid?
Mr. Lieberman I don't feel threatened or impressed by you, I live in Michigan. But you insulted probably the majority of CT voters, and many Democrats nationally with your threats. The Democratic party platform is posted on the web for you to review and detail how you align with it's many planks. CT needs a Democratic Senator, the nation needs another Democratic Senator. If you are Democrat, demostrate this to your voters. If your supporters are planning an independent bid, leave the party today and begin your independent run.
