Maybe it's the poll numbers released last week, and today, showing Ned Lamont well within striking distance less than two months from primary day? Maybe it's the overflowing crowds at rallys and events across the state? Whatever the reason, Senator Lieberman continues to openly contemplate the unthinkable for any proud Democrat, abandoning the party and running as an Indepedent this November.
Here's what will happen if Senator Lieberman bolts the party.
Yes, we'll still win in a three way race. It will be a bit tougher, but it's pretty obvious that the movement behind Ned continues to grow, and support for Senator Lieberman is a mile wide, but a mere inch deep. But the first problem is that the move does open the door slightly for the GOP contender. It will also divide the party and hurts top-tier House candidates (three in total), right as we are on the cusp of reclaiming the body for the first time since 1994. And there's a gubernatorial campaign that will suffer from party division as well. It's not just about this Senate seat alone, it's about the good of the Democratic Party in Connecticut, and nationwide.
That's why our campaign has started a full run of radio ads featuring Ned asking the Senator to pledge his support to the primary winner, whoever it is -- just as Ned has already done.

This movement has built, and will only continue to grow, primarily as friends talk to friends, family, and their own personal networks. Combined with the "blog-force" behind the effort both locally and nationally, this as been a marriage between the online and the offline never seen before in a statewide race.

High-level Lieberman supporters referred to us and our efforts as a "nuclear blog testing ground," and claimed our strategy centered around getting "every weirdo in the left wing" to the polls on August 8th. Want more? He compared us to terrorists.
"I think to be terrorized through the summer by an extremely small group of the Democratic Party, much less the voting population, is total insanity for a person who is a three-term senator," Droney said....
