I am reluctant to post such things at Dkos, but, since
my own site is experiencing some unwanted downtime over the next 48 hours, I thought this one time would hopefully be forgiven. After all, a person HAS to post or suffer debilitating 'blogging withdrawal' -- a terrible affliction I'd wish on no one!
Soooooo...
Earlier today a staunch neoconservative Global Warming denier (a coworker of mine) sent me an article with predictable citations of a few college professors who question the Global Warming assertions of the reality-based community.
In particular, the author attempted to upend Al Gore's latest Documentary as Hollywood hogwash.
Receiving this sort of thing from this sort of person is not an uncommon occurrence for me. I've run several blogs over the years and as any active blogger can attest, you become a target for this sort of science-hating Repuglinut nonsense.
So I sort of knew better than to address the details of the article or the particular assertions of it's sender. Instead, I thought it would be more effective to offer a warmer, more heart-felt, if not snarky, appeal to the person's suffering conscience.
It's quick. It's to the point. And shockingly, it provoked something I never could have suspected from the sender...
...thought. Dare I say reflection?
At least that's what he admitted in not so many words -- and in his 'always-right, never-wrong' demeanor (without which he seems unable to act).
For that reason, I thought it might be worth sharing with my DKos brothers and sisters.
It may seem rather unimpressive, but there was something there that found a tiny light in this particularly dark-minded neocon. Take it for what it's worth.
(Note: for obvious reason you should feel free to adjust for gender.)

[Insert name of Global Warming Denier]
I understand that denying reality is part of your make-up so I won't begrudge you for donning the tinfoil hat of 'environmental conspiracy'.
Nevertheless, the fact of the matter is this: the vast scientific consensus (including the opinion of the Bush administration) is that Global warming is real, it is accelerated, if not wholly caused at this juncture, by human factors, and the potential outcome is truly and legitimately catastrophic.
Come on. I know you're a smart guy. Give up your role as industrial apologist and instead demand a little accountability from those who pollute your children's air, water, food, and future.
With all due respect.
