This TV ad started running in Ohio today:
((cue sappy music)) - PRYCE: Central Ohio has one of the largest groups of Veterans in America. I'm really proud to have been part of bringing a new Veterans Clinic to Columbus.
- VET #1: This was much needed . . . a much needed facility.
- VET#2: Someone had to lead all of that work, and I think Deborah Pryce has done a magnificent job.
- VET #3: All veterans owe a debt of gratitude to Debbie Pryce. We fought for this country, we gave up 4 1/2 years of our lives and she's one of the few who will come through for us.
- PRYCE: I'm Deborah Pryce and I approved this ad.
ARRGH!!! For "Debbie" Pryces's REAL record on "supporting the troops" (and how to support her opponent, Mary Jo Kilroy) read on.
(Note: Also see below for how to rate YOUR Republican on Veteran's issues.)
Let's look at Pryce's
amazing troop support record, and compare hers to, e.g., Ohio Democrats
Sherrod Brown's and
Ted Strickland's:
- Vietnam Veterans of America; of house resolutions deemed key, Pryce cosponsored 1. (Sherrod Brown 12. Ted Strickland: 22.)
- American Legion; of house resolutions deemed key, Pryce cosponsored 3. (Sherrod Brown 39. Ted Strickland 58.)
- Disabled Veterans of America; for the last 3 years gave Pryce a rating of ZERO! (Sherrod Brown and Ted Strickland both rated 100% all 3 years.)
- Brecksville. If Pryce is going to take credit for opening a clinic in Columbus, is she going to take credit for CLOSING the VA Hospital at Brecksville near Cleveland--in WARTIME; placing an added burden on veterans?
- Rep. Chris Smith. Finally, as a member of the House leadership, Pryce shares blame for the disgraceful dismissal of Congressman Chris Smith (her fellow REPUBLICAN) from chairmanship of the Veterans Affairs Committee.
Apparently Rep. Smith's long record of actually HELPING veterans did not match the GOP's and Bush's agenda. (Ironically, Smith had headed "Veterans for Bush." Apparently loyalty among these people flows uphill only.)
Angry yet?
- Go here to support Mary Jo Kilroy, Pryce's opponent; and to see her position on veterans issues.
- Go here for Veteran's for America, a veteran's group that really supports veterans. (Please list any others you know of in comments.)
- Go here for a blog entry giving even MORE info on Pryce's record (and from which I scrounged much of my info).

Note: How does YOUR Republican rate on Veteran's issues? Odds are, BAD. To check, go
here and enter your state. Then select your Republican from the choices to call up his/her rating page. And there, use the "pick an issue" pull-down menu to select "Veterans." The page that pops up looks like
this.
It's amazing! For example, an
earlier diary tallied the Disabled Veterans of American numbers and found their overall rating was 92% for Democrats and 10% for Republicans. I guess they gotta get that Paris Hilton/Dick Cheney Tax Cut money from
somewhere! BTW, to get tallies like I did for Pryce, Brown, and Strickland, you have to look at each's entries and count them up. It takes a while. Sorry if I miscounted by 1 or 2--but I'm pretty sure I got it exact.)
