Will Senator Lieberman run as an Independent? Who knows. Who will the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee support should it happen? Who knows. What we do know in campaign headquarters, however, is that our campaign will/would be beat Joe Lieberman (D), Joe Lieberman (I), or Joe Lieberman (R) -- pick a letter.
How can we be so sure? From day one, our effort to elect Ned Lamont has centered around giving people the power to pry open doors to the political process long closed to the average American. And now the polls show us closing considerably what was once a very large gap between the two campaigns. Still, as this movement grows, you remain the engine that powers its progress. We've come a long way in a short time, and now we are rolling out a new suite of online tools to make meaningful participation that much easier -- starting with personal fundraising pages.

By contrast, Senator Lieberman is the U.S. Senate's second largest recipient of pharmaceutical manufacturer donations this election cycle, and has collected over $1 million from lobbyists and political action committees. From now until the end of the campaign, every time you see a Joe Lieberman advertisement, flier, bumper sticker or button, you know who's paying for it.
The personal fundraising tool is really simple, and starts with setting a goal. Follow one of the links in this entry to the personal fundraising page, create an account, follow the instructions, and in three minutes you'll be ready to go. You'll be assigned a web address and tools to manage, promote, and track the progress of your goal. Most of us know the drill by now. If you have your own website or blog, there's a graphic that keeps up-to-the-minute track of your progress; you can even include the graphic in the signature line of your personal email accounts. Make the goal manageable, even if the number seems small -- then imagine 500, 1000, or 2000-plus people just like you pulling together at the same time. That's exactly how we win this tug-of-war for the soul of the Democratic Party.
Our campaign will never match Senator Lieberman's special interest money, and we don't want to. Instead, we are relying on your support to spread the word about Ned. We're counting on you to use the tools available to help us win this August, starting with the creation of your own personal fundraising page.

They tell me, Ned, don't rock the boat. Baby, I say it's high time we rock the boat! -- Ned Lamont, March 13, 2005 at the campaign kick-off
