Representative Henry Waxman's (D-CA) testimony today on HR 861 titled "Waste, Fraud and Abuse Mar Iraq Reconstruction (June 15, 2006)"
PDF here should be plastered on the front page of every newspaper in this country and read before every cable and network news program on television.
Perhaps this will help the American people open their eyes to what is real whom the traitors to our troops and nation really are. From the Waxman site intro...
"Rep. Waxman today addressed the floor of the House of Representatives to highlight waste, fraud and abuse in the reconstruction of Iraq. Despite $50 billion in expenditures, oil and electricity production remains well below pre-war levels. The Bush Administration's gross mismanagement of the war has wasted taxpayer dollars and produced lackluster results."
I was already at my peak anger over this war years ago, but this keeps it going.
Every school student should be required to study this entire fiasco as well!
More from the Waxman testimony:
"In essence, we've squandered $50 billion. Profiteering has been rampant...but the taxpayer has gotten gouged and the work hasn't gotten done. And what's especially shameful about the wasteful spending is that we needed this money to protect our troops."
"To understand the magnitude of the waste, fraud and abuse in Iraq, there's no better place to start than Halliburton. Halliburton is the largest private contractor operating in Iraq. The company has three contracts that total more than $20 billion" (emphasis mine). These are 'cost-plus' contracts, meaning they recoup any incidental losses apart from their inflated costs for goods and services.
Vice President Cheney, although denying previous knowledge or planning for contracts to Halliburton has since been found to be lying (emphasis mine) in that Scooter Libby was indeed briefed on such plans.
