The Verde Valley PDA and the National PDA has overwhelmingly endorsed Mike Caccioppoli for Congress in Arizona's Congressional District 1.
Mike Caccioppoli has been speaking out against the war in Iraq since he began running for Congress back in August of 2005. Mike believes that we need to bring our troops home now, and that anything less is not acceptable. Mike also talks about investigating the lies that were told to the American people in order to get their backing for the invasion of Iraq and if impeachment of the President is the end result of that investigation then so be it. Mike talks about the need to restore a system of checks and balances in this country, something that cannot be done until Progressive Democrats take over Congress, but he needs your help in order to accomplish this goal.
As a candidate for Congress Mike talks about the need to raise the minimum wage to at least $8 per hour immediately. He talks about providing a single payer health care plan for all uninsured Americans and how it is a national shame that 45 million of our citizens are without health care.
Mike believes that anyone should be able to run for elected office and have a real shot at winning and that unfortunately our current system makes it very difficult for an ordinary citizen to run for office. He is tired of middle of the road Democrats who only win because they have tons of money to throw into a campaign. As Mike often says, "Democrats need to embrace their base not run from it." This is an incredibly important point in this year's elections because we see a groundswell of Progressive Democrats who are running around the country and they need support in order to win.
Mike's background is in talk radio where he worked for nearly 10 lives. Having been born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., Mike has lives in various cities throughout Arizona and since his district is one of the largest in the country he often finds himself traveling around the state and talking to people with a wide variety of concerns that have one thing in common- quality of life. From not being able to earn a decent living to not even having running water or electricity, Mike has heard over and over again that the people of his district are looking for a change from the status quo. Mike understands many of these problems because he has lived through some of them himself and he often talks about the need for Congress to be made up of people who understand the wants and needs of the average person.
"PDA is pleased to endorse candidates like Mike Caccioppoli who have been advancing the progressive call for an end to the Iraq War, single-payer healthcare, fair trade, not so-called 'free trade,' curbing abusive corporate power and the impeachment of the president and vice-president for their repeated violations of the law. PDA represents the cutting edge of progressive grassroots activism that is spreading throughout the nation and we are honored to be working for the election of with Mike Caccioppoli," commented Tim Carpenter, Executive Director of the Progressive Democrats of America.
Mike will represent us, not the corporate elite who are currently represented in Washington D.C. Mike will fight for the middle class and the less fortunate not the rich and the connected. Mike is running an aggressive, grassroots campaign that has been sustained by the contributions of ordinary people not the special interests. In order for Mike to beat the system he needs your help.
