With all of the noise about intercepting bank records, a powerful anti-war photo slipped by unnoticed. This picture will make you cry, smile, weep, shudder, wretch, and ultimately wonder why this wasn't on the first page of every paper in the country
I tried to find a link but couldn't. The White House has photos posted on its website, although with statements by Bush and video. Thanks to Jondo for finding even more.
The title "An Attention-Getting Run at the White House." Page A19, National Setion, June 28, 2006
The caption: President Bush was joined on a jog yesterday at the White House by Staff Sgt. Christian Bagge of the Army. Sergeant Bagge, 23, of Eugene, Ore. lost both legs to a roadside bomb while he was serving in Iraq.
The props: President Bush in his running get-up. As you know, both of his legs are intact. A young soldier, missing both legs, with devices attached that I can't even describe - they look like giant hooks that Captain Hook would have envied, but on his legs, rather than his arms.
In fact, the soldiers' arm is on the president's shoulder. They seem to be laughing.
I don't get it. But I think the photographer did. His angle is of the pair posing for the press. What a photo op!
What a use of a soldier. Trading his legs for ????
I admire the soldier; he has determined to go on. That is bravery.
Well, if anyone can get a look at the picture, I'd love to know your responses. It makes me want to cry, smile, weep, shudder and wretch.
