The movie Princess Mononoke by Hayao Miyazaki, is a japanese cartoon that unlike most others, is set in the past. In this past the wilderness of earth contains a magical quality that is slowly being destroyed by an industrialized society. The animals in this magical realm are all enraged by the encroachment of humankind and thier exploitation of the natural resources. The humans on the other hand, are seeking to create weapons and inflict thier domainance over all things.
The lead character is a female who runs a fortified city of downtrodden people manufacturing gunpowder. She is the Ayn Rand character of the film, the uber-capitalist who sees the earth as nothing more than an object to be owned and destroyed, if need to be, in order to maintain her political strength over the larger society as a whole.
There are multiple sets of of animals in the magical forest, all in various states of rage over what this woman and her workers are doing to the forest. Over time these animals are overcome with rage until they are filled with an evil spirit that overtakes them. At this point they go beserk and destroy everything in their path without any regard to life.
Then there is Princess Mononoke, raised by the wolves. She is the protaganist to the leader of the city, and along with the wolves, uses her cunning to wreak havoc on the fortified humans.
Which do you want to be? The animal slowly overcome with rage, capable of being manipulated and controlled by those who are more cunning than you? Wouldn't you rather be the cunning protaganist who is able to see seven steps ahead in the game?
I see alot of outrage here on Dailykos, and very little organizing. For the three hundred diaries a day that proclaim how pissed on we are about this that or the other, wouldn't those diaries be better spent figuring how to convince Democrats to share thier voter rolls nationwide?
In the words of Palapatine, and later, Darth Vader himself:
"You anger serves you well"
Who is up to putting the outrage aside for a while, and focusing on some more constructive things?
My Name is Roboton, and I am a recovering Rageoholic...
