Deputy Administrator Shana Dale today announced the formation of the new Office of Communications Planning (OCP). The OCP will focus on new and innovative ways to engage and inform a broader cross-section of the American
public about NASA activities through the development of new technology and tools, enhanced outreach mechanisms and key partnerships, and will develop long-term communication strategies and plans for increasing public awareness
and understanding of NASA and its missions. The OCP will be a part of the Strategic Communications organization, and the assistant administrator of this new office will report to the chief of Strategic Communications.
Dale has named Senior Advisor Robert Hopkins as assistant administrator of the new office. Prior to joining NASA, Hopkins served as associate administrator of Public Affairs for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Hopkins' other government service includes directing communications
for the Office of Science and Technology Policy, Executive Office of the President, where he was responsible for managing media relations, providing strategic communications support and coordinating communications on science
and technology issues across government agencies. Previously, he worked as external affairs director for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
Hopkins once spread WH-approved miscommunication for the EPA, suppressing science. Now he is in charge of this new NASA office.
