One of the strengths I've observed in the netroots has been mobilizing money in support of deserving candidates. This sentence doesn't really need any backing up in these parts.
...but how will we be able to do in mobilizing free money in support of deserving candidates? In Minnesota, this is a reality (up to $50). If you registered to vote in Minnesota or know anyone who is please read on.
I diaried
yesterday about the Political Contribution Refund a process which allows MN voters to give up to $50 to a statewide candidate or the state party (sorry no national candidates can refund money). Does this sound too good to be true? No: it's a way that Minnesota has tried to equalize the playing field for candidates who abide by spending limits. Still don't believe me? Call the Minnesota Department of Revenue at 651-296-3781 or 800-652-9094. It's real.
This seems like a slam-dunk way to help build the 50-state strategy: building up the state parties with small donations--small donations which are refunded. However, the Dems have always lost in refunds to the Repugs. But this need not be the case, if you have friends or fam in Minnesota please, please, please send them this info.
