Dear Future New York State Senator, Brian Keeler (NYBri),

I want to take this opportunity to broadly, and without any authority whatsoever, speak on behalf of the entire blogosphere by asking you to... relax. Take it easy.

Okay, so you're running for NY State Senate against a punk-ass Republican incumbent and that might cause a little stress.

Sure, as a long time net-denizen you and your campaign have become a cause célèbre with the progressive political blogosphere and that might put a little pressure on some.

And, yeah... The results of your pioneering run will, in many ways, reflect upon the current state of the 'gate-crashing' movement... the degree of influence... and the motivation and ability to get 'one of our own' elected to office.

So what! We really don't expect that much of you. How could we? You're just a mild mannered guy who believes what he says and acts as he believes.

You don't have $200 million 'cash on hand' or a legion of Keeler 'Pioneers' or 'Rangers' padding your coffers.

You don't have a vast inner circle of establishment politicos, strategists, or pollsters.

You don't have an army of paid propagandists.

And you don't have the Ear of K-street or of America's CEOs.

You don't even have a shadow intelligence team working out of the Pentagon.

What could you possibly accomplish without these seemingly critical establishment tools?

Heck! All you have is conviction, courage, intelligence, moxie, commonsense, character, charisma, and staunch progressive ideals.

What could you possibly accomplish with those??

So you can just chill out. You don't have to sweat this 'election' thingy.

HOWEVER, if you DO decide to take this whole election thing seriously, then it is absolutely imperative that you KNOW deep in your heart that we are all behind you 100%.

And we're going to show that love and support by coming to your Kick-ass New York City fundraiser/blograiser Monday, July 10th. We will share in our camaraderie and celebrate the rise of the netroots as we show our financial support for your campaign.

On Monday, July 10th, Democratic candidate for New York Senate's 41st District Brian Keeler will be hosting a fundraiser to help us win the district's seat away from Republican incumbent Stephen Saland.

Brian's candidacy is somewhat of a phenomenon in the sense that he has become a 'top tier' state senate race as a 'blogosphere' candidate. Well-known and beloved on and a founder of both and, Brian is deeply ingrained in the progressive Netroots. It is this nationwide support that will allow an upstate, non-state-wide candidate to have a well-attended Manhattan fundraiser.

Rest assured, Brian's senate run is being very closely watched by the millions of activists that make up the progressive political blogosphere and we're cheering him on as 'our' candidate. Because of that, his events will receive very wide coverage on the blogs, most assuredly read by hundreds of thousands if not millions of Democratic activists, politicos, and journalists.

That means the traditional media and the DC folks will get a good view of the man from upstate NY who is taking the Netroots to a whole new level of political involvement!!

Let's make this an event to be remembered -- one with which the press and the politicians will have to take notice!!

These battles cost money to run effectively and that is where we can make the difference in this race!

For that, we ask that you show them our appreciation by simply buying some food and drink during the course of the event. Drink specials, appetizers, and other food will be available on a cash basis.

STILL DEVELOPING: There are still other (hopefully exciting) developments in the works, but these are the things that are currently set in stone.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
