Our government tortures people.
We have all heard that word too many times, now
Torture.
What does it mean? The word has become a shorthand symbol for something we don't like to think about.
How long has it been since Abu Ghraib?
Are we still torturing people now?
As usual RW radio and Fox News have won the easy battle to deflect the attention of its citizens away from the illegal activities of their Government.
Its hard to believe that the citizens of this country are allowing their Government to continue to torture, but they are. Its hard to believe we could see the pictures from Abu Ghraib and then let the practices continue, but they have. Its hard to believe we could forget what torture means, but we have.
Think of someone you love.
Think of them walking down the street to their house when a van pulls up, they are seized, hooded and cuffed and thrown into the van. No one will answer their questions about whats happening. Soon they are on a plane on the way to one of your governments torture centers.
This person you love...still having no idea what is going on, is stripped and dumped in a cell. Their guards have been encouraged to 'loosen them up'. The people who come to interrogate them include both a doctor and a dog handler. The doctor shoots them up. The dog growls and barks inches from their genitals.
They are unable to answer questions SINCE THEY ARE THERE BY MISTAKE so the initial interrogators leave. The uniformed gaurds come back. One holds your loved one down while the other whips the back of your loved ones legs with a length of heavy rubber hose. Your loved one is left naked in an unheated cell overnight, no bed no blanket...maybe a hole in the floor, maybe not.
In the morning a psychiatrist examines them...to determine your loved ones psychological weaknesses...so 'they' (your Government) can use the most effective torture. After another interrogation session, at which your loved one begs and pleads in vain for mercy...begs to be told why they are here...why they are being tortured. More dogs. More beatings. The psychiatrists report comes back and recommends water boarding, and perhaps the threat of electrocuting your loved ones genitals.
After a month of this its determined that your loved one doesn't know anything.
Beaten, bruised, intentionally psychologically destroyed and permanently damaged, scared, starved and cold your loved one is not released. They are sent
to Gitmo.
You never knew what happened to them. They never did anything wrong. You may never see them again.
All because someone DECIDED that torture was ok.
Think of someone you love.
