KICK DEWINE'S ASS:
U.S. Rep. Sherrod Brown will finally win the endorsement today of his former Democratic rival for U.S. Senate, Mr. Brown's campaign said late yesterday.
Mr. Brown, a Democrat from Avon who faces incumbent Republican Mike DeWine this fall, is scheduled to receive the endorsement of primary election opponent Paul Hackett at a "unity rally" in Cincinnati, the Brown campaign said.
Considering the bad feelings the earlier primary dispute brought, this is huge. Dewine is unpopular in Ohio, but he is a well-funded incumbent who will be difficult to beat even with a unified party, much less if the former primary opponent refuses to get on board.
The road to taking back the Senate runs through Ohio. I personally would like to see Pat Roberts resign the Intelligence Committee Chair so we can finally have a real "Phase II" investigation of the Iraqi WMD fiasco. That's what a Sherrod Brown win will bring. Although there are a lot of disagreements in Kossackstan, I believe I can safely say that everyone reading this is on board with that goal.
So, let's take back Ohio! Support Sherrod Brown!!
Update [2006-7-10 18:17:22 by pontificator]: Hackett speaks:
Ohio Democrats took another significant step today towards victory in November when Congressman Sherrod Brown (D-Lorain County) and Iraq veteran Paul Hackett stood shoulder to shoulder before a cheering crowd of more than 100 supporters in Cincinnati.
The former primary rivals called the Unity Rally to announce Hackett's endorsement for Brown in his Senate race against incumbent Republican Sen. Mike DeWine.
"I want to help Sherrod, because I want to make our country better, make Ohio better," said Hackett. "We need quality leadership like Sherrod Brown, someone who will stand up for Ohio families and Ohio veterans. And he has done that."
