Today while procrastinating over my morning coffee at work I ran across this gem of a story in the Concord Monitor Online. The headline reads "Bush voters have Buyers Remorse" While I read the story I imagined headlines to follow in the upcoming weeks "Pope to Wear Tall Pointy Hat in Vatican," "Corvair to be recalled" and "Bear leaves droppings in Woods."
There have been a million and one diaries rehashing the 2004 election this diary is not one of them. I am neither a crybaby nor am I someone who blames Sen. Kerry for the 2004 results.
I applaud these easily cowed Americans who choose George Bush to be leader of the free world in 2004.
The reason I applaud the Bush election is that they taught every American who voted a good lesson. Yes it is a very costly lesson in young American lives, American treasure and prestige but a much needed lesson.
You get what you vote for.
Vote for a courageous, smart, and diplomatic person like John Kerry; heck you might get a courageous, smart, and diplomatic President Kerry.
Vote for George Bush you get President George Bush.
If Americans choose to elect a person who is under qualified for the job then they should reap the rewards. Too many Americans go into the ballot box with a nonchalance attitude that seeps with apathy. Finally these apathetic Americans have been rewarded with their first choice George "I caught a 7.5 pound perch in my lake" Bush.
Too long have I cursed these same Americans who kept Walker Texas Ranger and Murder She wrote on my television. Today I thank them for finally agreeing with me. It took a while and I admit I didn't believe they actually knew the difference between actual honest to God leadership and PR stunts.
But then I read the results of the recent poll taken by the Concord Monitor.
* Iowa: Kerry 49 percent, Bush 40 percent.
* Missouri: Kerry 48, Bush 40.
* Nevada: Kerry 47, Bush 38.
This is an actual turning point in my life. It might take a while but Americans know the difference between stunts and Leadership.
I just wish they didn't take so long because in my Colbert Gut I believe that Sen. Kerry is better equipped to face a North Korea, a impending Social Security Crunch and Today's' French Toast Breakfast than George Bush.
2006 will be a test of the American people if they have in fact learned their lesson. I wish them good luck and leave them with a bit of wisdom my pappy gave me remember
"you can't make chicken salad out of chicken shit"
