CNN is reporting six near-simultaneous bomb explosions on commuter trains in India's financial and tech capitol Mubai:
MUMBAI, India (CNN) -- At least six blasts rocked commuter trains at rush hour Tuesday in and around India's financial capital of Mumbai, with at least 15 deaths reported.
Dozens of people were injured in the blasts, which took place around 6:30 p.m. (9 a.m. ET) when the trains were packed with commuters making their way home.
Simultaneous attacks of this sort are a hallmark of Al Queda and related groups. India is a likely target because of the conflict in Kashmir, and Mumbai in particular because of its central roll in the country's economy.
I'm on a client site today with a number of employees with family in Bombay, and will try to report details if I can get any.
UPDATE: The 15 deaths reported in the CNN article are bodies observed by a reporter at a single site. The toll is likely to climb substantially.
Note also that these bombings, if not the work of a purely indigenous group, may lead to a substantial increase in regional tension because of Pakistan's reputed patronage of Al Queda.
