This morning the
New York Times is reporting that the violence in Iraq, specifically in Bagdad is raging out-of-control and will likely require an infusion of troops.
BAGHDAD, Iraq, July 12 -- Gen. George W. Casey Jr., the senior American commander in Iraq, said Wednesday that "terrorists and death squads" were responsible for the surge in sectarian killings here in recent weeks, and that there might be a need to move more American forces into the capital to prevent the deadly cycle from worsening.

This call for additional American troops comes on the same day that
Jonah Goldberg writes in his regular column in the
Los Angeles Times that "liberal eggs-heads" like you and me and a "limousine liberal" like
Ned Lamont are lacking in "big ideas".
Jonah alleges that "Bush hatred" informs everything we say and write.
Bush-hatred drives -- or poisons -- almost everything in liberal politics now. Chait himself wrote a bilious cover story for the New Republic in 2003 explaining why he hates everything, and I mean everything, about Bush. And just this week, Chait defended the proposition that Bush is a greater threat to the U.S. than Osama bin Laden because Bush has "wreaked enormous damage on the political and social fabric of the country" and has "strained the fabric of American democracy." And Chait is seen as a moderate by the Daily Kos crowd.

Jonah, speaking for myself, I would say calling out the hypocrisy of people like you and and David Brooks also informs what I think and write.
All is good in the world for you and your ilk. And for the purposes of this diary, I'll limit my remarks to the carnage in Iraq--I won't discuss all the vulnerable American, children, senior citizens, the sick targeted by Mr. Bush.
Today, I'll just focus on the Iraqis targeted by Mr. Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, et al.
I think John Dean has it correct, people like you are amoral. You're happy to send the children of others to fight an illegal war.
I recognize you consider pondering your unwillingness to serve while cheerleading the war, old news, well so is Monica Lewinsky who you haul out of mothballs again today.
But I suppose resurrecting the spectre of Monica is expectable since your entire claim to fame is sitting on your mom's lap barely out of diapers spouting bullshit during the Clinton impeachment.
But that was bullshit, Jonah. Iraq isn't. We invaded Iraq, now you need to finish the job.
This is what's happening in Iraq. This is a war you support and champion. We're going to hammer people like you who deem success in Iraq central to the GWOT but refuse to do anything to fight it.
Now, you even write nonsense about patriots we support like Ned Lamont who is by no means a single-issue candidate.
Why not educate yourself about him. This is why Ned Lamont is running, you fool.
I am running for the US Senate because we deserve a Senator who will stand up for Connecticut and stand up for our progressive democratic values. Rather than spending hundreds of millions of dollars a day in Iraq, it is time for America to refocus on issues back home: fixing our health care system, upgrading our schools, and rebuilding our aging infrastructure. We will start winning in Iraq as the Iraqis take control of their own destiny, just as America has to start investing again in our own future.

Going back to Iraq, things are spiraling out of control. Civil War? This is a fact. This is not from the "liberal eggheads" unless you consider General Casey a liberal egghead.
His remarks came on a day when at least 30 people were killed and 37 wounded in and around Baghdad, including 20 people who were kidnapped from a bus station 60 miles north of the city and killed, Iraqi officials said. A local police official offered a slightly different account of that episode.
Appears to be your "last chance" Jonah.
Hours before General Casey spoke, Iraq's prime minister, Nuri Kamal al-Maliki, told Iraqi lawmakers that his program of national reconciliation was the country's "last chance" to avoid slipping into chaos.
. . .More than 130 people have been killed in or around Baghdad during the past four days, underscoring the persistence of violence that has convinced many Iraqis that the country is already in the throes of a low-level civil war.
On Tuesday, 50 people died in violence that included a double suicide bombing near busy entrances to the fortified Green Zone, scattered shootings, mortar attacks, a series of car bombs and the ambush of a bus with Shiite mourners returning from a burial.
Chaos is Washington-speak for civil war. Truth is, Jonah, I don't blame you for not wanting to serve. I wouldn't either. I wouldn't want to die for an illegal war sold to the American people on a pack of lies.
It's so much esier to sit in front of a comfortable table, in a air conditioned office writing drivel and attacking Daily Kos.

One more thing, I have a friend who was in Iraq, here's what he wrote to me about their living conditions.
You can read what I wrote here:
Disturbing E-Mail I received from a Soldier in Iraq

Well Eve,
My life here is verry different than I ever wxpected to be living that is for sure. I dont even know where to start. I also dont want you to feel bad for me when I tell you some of this stuff. First of all we hardly ever have hot water. That is when we still have water because they have to truck all of our water in from the local villages. Next the septic system here is set up for about half of the people that use it. That leads to the weak link which happens to be in the bathroom that is in my section of the berthing. You know what that means. That means that when she is full the overflow comes up our sinks and spreads poo all over the floor. Also with the water they test it and every time it comes up with ecoli. They had three kinds of bottled water here for us and two of the three kinds have bacteria in them. The last thing that bugs me about this place is there is all kinds of mold on the walls where we sleep. There is mold right next to my head throught the whole night.
The whole civil war thing is not affecting us yet except for the mail. We cannot go and get the mail because of that crap.
I am sorry that I am rambeling but I have to cut myself off right now I could go on all night long!!!!
Given the circumstances I think that we have pretty high spirits!!!
I will write later
Your Friend in Iraq,
Hell Yeah, I'd agree, poo all over the floor, thank your lucky stars you're stateside.
