I am
Barry Welsh and our campaign was a Feingold Progressive Patriot Finalist. We won our primary over a Chemistry Professor with 70% of the vote over a 19 county district. I am the Democratic Party Candidate in Indiana's 6th District and I am running against Mr. Mike Pence. At our state convention, the district caucus voted unanimously to ask the state for $5,000 for our campaign.
We have united the Democratic Party in this district and are in a position of turnout being the deciding factor in winning this election.
We are running a revolutionary campaign and that was the plan when we started and we are sticking to it. I even laid it all out here in a diary.
There is a new online interview up at Confessions of A Hoosier Democrat and I thank Rob for that. There is also an interview with Indiana's 2nd District Candidate Joe Donnely Warning to anti-Bayh people, this is a Bayh blog, so be nice if you visit, please.
Oh yeah, and I was a kossack before I became a candidate.
I was intimidated when I first came to this site. I lurked for a long time, finally registered and lurked some more. Just like many average kossacks. I don't post diaries daily. I don't post just because I am running for congress. I post because I love this country and fear this government. I was just another kossack.
I can't be just a kossack anymore. I found that out Wednesday.
Wednesday morning I happened to be home waiting for a tow truck to pick up my wife's car, which wouldn't start, so she took mine. Otherwise, I would have been heading to a meeting.
I check the blogs first thing every morning, and then the TV cable news on CNN and MSNBC. That morning, CNN had this graphic on the screen. "Breaking News: Israel Invades Lebanon." I looked at the kos front page and there was nothing about this. I clicked on CNN online, and also the Israeli newspaper sites.
I posted a quick diary with the CNN headline, and a one paragraph link, as just another kossack might. I fully expected
Other diaries and more details and instead, it took off so fast I could never update it.
So yeah, I am the guy that started all of this on Wednesday morning.
Now as a normal Congressional Candidate, I should not have posted that diary because I have several people on both sides of this mad at me, and calling me everything in the book. But I am not your normal congressional candidate.
I don't think sending millionaires to try to solve the problems other millionaires created is logical and that is where our nation is. Just my opinion.
Why? Why do we keep sending the same type of people, regardless of party, and expect different results? Now there are exceptions of course, but let's be real honest here.
We keep sending the people with the most money and expect them to care about the people with the least money or no money?
We think our lobbyists will make better representatives than their lobbyists? Why?
We think `outsiders' are good in theory but let's support our insiders instead. Crashing the Gate is a good idea as long as someone else is butting their head against it. Do we really want to crash any gates or are we thinking It is easier to just get invited in the gate, and look back at those left outside? Isn't that where our nation is now? Isn't there a Bush in the White House because there was a Bush there before, or is it because of his great logical thinking and problem solving skills? Are we too lazy to actually crash a gate because it is easier to bitch about it and wait to be invited inside while even more gates are being built?
Being a representative is about taking information, being analytical, and making a decision, keeping in mind the best interests of the people of your district. I am capable and qualified to do that and will do that more effectively than the current representative.
All I hear is money. Money doesn't vote, people do. Maybe this election, being the rich man is not going to be such a good thing. We will find out in November, but we are doing things differently here in this district so I am not your average Congressional Candidate.
I am the Most Unlikely Congressional Candidate in the Country. So I did post that first Israel/Lebanon Diary, but it was not because I am a Hamas propagandist nor was it because I hate Arabs and was bragging about the coming death. Nor was it because I am a Congressional Candidate and I knew it would get 1200 comments.. It was because I am just an average kossack, and I was trying to inform people of an event that might be important. You see I am one of you trying to represent all of you in a Congress that more and more only deal with the rich and the issues of least significance. If you don't think Mike Pence's decisions impact you because you do not live in this district, please think again!
As a Congressional Candidate I can not be just another kossack, because there are only a few hundred people in this country that will have the nomination and be on the November ballot and thus have the potential to change the course of the country and possibly the world and I am one of those fortunate people. But if I had it to do over again, I would post the same diary. The news had to be broken.
I post because I love this country and fear this government, and I am trying to do something about it.
