George Bush continues his "I'm a tough decider act". Bush got in front of cameras and once again hid behind children his lack of political courage and morality.
In vetoing this bill, George Bush imposed on Americans and much of the world the will of a small, religiously extreme minority. And of course his own - The Choosen One.
In doing so, Bush has denied medical care and hope to millions suffering from Parkinson, Alzheimers, cancers and dozens of illnesses and injuries. These illnesses and injuries cause pain and suffering and ultimately death and tear the lives of patients and their families who have to endure this struggle.
And Bush did all this while using children to shield his cowardice & narrow-mindedness.
It was George Bush that crossed a moral boundary. And since he had some pictures for us, I'd like to show you some pictures also.
Spinal Injuries
Superman died knowing full well he'd probably never see the benefits of his work in support of Stem Cell Research.
Alzheimer's Disease
The conservative movement's favorite father, Ronald Reagan, suffered the last two decades of his life with Alzheimer's disease. Research offers hope of finding a cure for the debilitating disease with stem cells.
Will stem cells cure Alzheimer's? Who's knows but isn't it worth finding out? Nancy Reagan thinks so and she believes her husband would have approved of stem cell research also.
Parkinson's Disease
Imagine having to tell your children that you have Pakinson's Disease. Michael J. Fox had to do just that.
Fox fights today for stem cell research and to promote funding for (and with this administration, prevent cuts in) PD research.
Cash was a fighter if there ever was one. You know it had to eat him up to not be able to just keep his hands from shaking.
These diseases not only cause pain to the patients and their families. They often cause mental and emotion anguish in the case of a vibrant man suddenly paralyzed by an accident or in the case of the long good-bye of someone you love forgetting all their memories. And you.
Oh, but these are celebrities. Hollywood types. Who gives a shit about them.
Nothing like the children George Bush used to sell his sorry logic to the country.
I actually thought about pasting a bunch of photos of children who have illnesses or injuries that can be healed by Stem Cells.
You know. Use children to push my point.
But that would be, ohhhh, SICK.
But here are some stories which give you a glimpse of what parents and children must go through when a child suffers a painful nervous system disorder or is paralyzed and stuck in a wheel chair.
Imagine that for a moment.
Imagine being, say, 4 and knowing that you'll be in that wheelchair all your life.
Now imagine being the parent of that child.
Imagine the financial cost. The emotional cost. The cost of a full life to your child.
You can never leave the child alone so no dates with your spouse - unless you can get a specially trained caregiver (not just a babysitter).
Researchers in the US say they have been using stem cells to successfully treat genetic diseases in children.
The doctors told a conference that cells taken from umbilical cord blood can turn into healthy heart cells, for instance, and repair damaged tissue.
Researchers at Duke University have been using cord blood to treat children with rare diseases affecting the heart, liver and brain, but until now have been unsure as to why their treatment was successful.
Umbilical cord blood contains a small amount of stem cells, which many scientists believe could be used to grow into new healthy tissue.
Imagine that. Curing heart disease and leukemia.
Millions of Americans and people around the world die each year from heart disease and leukemia.
Was it moral to take away their cure?
Or how about the cases where parents concieve children so that they can donate the sibling's stem cells for a sick brother or sister.
Parents with sick kids turning to siblings' stem cells
Couples who need a stem cell donor for a child desperately ill with leukemia or anemia are turning to reproductive genetics clinics to help them conceive one, says a report Wednesday about the controversial approach.
Some ethicists have expressed concern about using technology to create children who would be tissue donors for siblings. They cite a lack of information about the impact on the children involved.
Concieving children for the purpose of tissue donations doesn't sit well with me - but who am I to question the desperation of a parent of a dying or seriously ill child?
But none of this would be an issue if King George didn't suffer from a "morality" over stem cells.
Funny, Bush didn't suffer any attack of morality when it came to defending men who committed treason by outing our intelligence agents.
He didn't suffer from morality when he misled us to war and LIED about misleading us to war.
And he certainly has no moral problem with using children to cover up for the fact that his sorry ass has no courage to stand up to the one sorry group that still supports him: the SICK, IRRATIONAL RELIGIOUS REICHT.
The same group that screams about the "Culture of Life" but sleeps fine at night despite denying millions of Americans and people the hope of being free from devastating diseases and injuries.
God help them.
