.... I'm working on this letter, so edits welcome. A tad late, yes, but I had to take my niece and nephew down the shore..
Letter is below.
Dear President Clinton,
Because I am highly concerned about the State of my (our) Democratic Party, I felt it prudent to write you this brief letter urging you not to endorse Senator Lieberman on Monday for many crucial reasons, but specifically, for the Senator's overtly embedded adherence to obsolete governmental and political methods.
Mr. President, I am certain that you see that we are well on the way to a great transition in our nation. Perhaps the abrupt end to the cold war is what left us all in a state of political and tactical stagnation. Or, the rise of institutions that seek nothing less than to merge the corporate with the state, thus preserving the wealth of the wealthy while ensuring a vast resource of poverty stricken individuals with little choice but to comply is what has brought us here. Despite the reasons, it is clear that we must pursue fresh methods and people. Further, our party must deliberately abandon those of us who cannot shed the subjective ideology of "old things." Senator Lieberman is a glaring example of the obsoleteism that plagues the Republican party and creates great obstacles for we Democrats, and therefore, I beg of you to reconsider your endorsement.
Our nation is in great danger as a direct result of arrogance and blatant ignorance to the ever changing and evolving global climate. One need only to look into recent history to see the common chain of events that leads to revolutionary change in society. I remind you, sir, that in any example you would cite, there are three constants.
* The benefactors of the old ways use every resource in their vast arsenal to prohibit change.
* The perpetrators of change fall victim to economic and institutional oppression and subversion.
* Over the course of time, sometimes generations, but mostly over a very brief period of time, those who fight for change are the victors.
This is precisely what is happening today. Further, Senator Lieberman has shown us that he is on the side of stagnation rather than progress:
* He has defended his position on an Illegal and deceitful war, which has cost both the United States and Iraq a devastating amount of life.
* He has stooped to disgusting depths in his campaign against Ned Lamont.
* He has revealed his taste for pursuing pure politics (as does the President on every single issue) in place of the mandate for humanitarian objectivity.
* He has threatened to side-step his moral obligation to comply with the expectations of my beloved Democratic Party by running as an Independent should he lose the Primary on August 8th.
I cannot ask you to endorse Ned Lamont; nor would I ever suggest that you should. It is up to you as an individual to weigh this "newcomer's" character for yourself. However, because you have undoubtedly been privy to witness the obsolete methodology of Senator Lieberman, specifically over the past six years, I feel it within my right to beg of you to reconsider your endorsement for the good of our party and our nation.
We, as a nation, are navigating dark waters. There are some who wish to preserve the obsolete and failed policies of old to serve themselves. Senator Lieberman has clearly chosen to help those who need the least at the peril of those of us who need the most. I beg of you to help us navigate away from this great obstacle. I urge you not to support Senator Lieberman unless he wins the Primary.
Thanks for your time.
Sincerely,
AGG
